Two cars traveling at high speed on Business US 41 in North Fort Myers collided Sunday morning, leaving several people seriously injured.
A Florida Highway Patrol report said a Mercedes Benz and Lamborghini were speeding northbound on Business 41, south of North Shore Avenue around 2:30 a.m.
The patrol report says the Benz collided with a curb, lost control, and then collided with the Lamborghini.
The Benz left the road to the right, collided with bushes and standing trees, and overturned into the Caloosahatchee River.
The Lamborghini crossed the southbound lanes, spun, flipped over, collided with a lamp post and was engulfed in flames.
A third vehicle, a sedan, collided with the wreckage.
The driver of the Benz, a 40-year-old man from Port Charlotte, suffered serious injuries. There were two passengers in the Benz, a 27-year-old woman from Tampa who suffered serious injuries and a 32-year-old man from Port Charlotte who suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Lamborghini, a 34-year-old man from Port Charlotte, was slightly injured. A 30-year-old passenger from Port Charlotte was seriously injured.
The crash is still under patrol investigation and charges are pending.
