10 high-performance luxury cars you can buy instead of a Prius

The Toyota Prius is not a bad car at all. It seats five, has excellent mpg, plenty of room inside, and is great value for money. However, as car enthusiasts we hate this thing because it is the ultimate sign of the anti-car person.

A top-of-the-line model will set you back $ 32,820 which isn’t a lot of money, but if we said you can get a good one supercar for that kind of money? Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Well, that’s right, and here are ten serious high-performance luxury cars for the price of a top-of-the-line Prius Limited.

ten Mercedes SL55 AMG

via CarScoops.com

The SL55 is an incredible car that was once driven by none other than Steve Jobs (he had several). At launch, it was Mercedes’ fastest and most powerful model. It had 493 horsepower and 416 lb-ft of torque, which is more than the Ferrari 360, one of Ferrari’s main supercars at the time.

This thing is a supercar. It hits 60 in just 4.3 seconds, which is still very fast today. In 2006, Mercedes increased the speed of the compressor, so that the overall power was increased to 508 hp. That’s more than Ferrari’s F430 at the time. The SL55 is also a very comfortable car, but the engine seems absolutely crazy.

9 Corvette Z06 C5

The Corvette C5 was released in 1995 and it was very different from the previous C4 generation. The Z06 was released in 2001, and it replaced the Corvette C4 ZR-1, a car that impressed many (and still does today). Under the hood is a 5.7-liter LS6 V8 that is 405 hp and gives you a 0-60 time of 4 seconds, which is insane. The 2001 Ferrari 360 (a much more expensive supercar) had less horsepower and was slower than the C6 Z06. Yet this car costs so much more on the used market.

The Z06 is a great car. The build quality may not be great, but it is acceptable. It looks absolutely amazing, and all Z06 models have a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Yes, you can have a Porsche 911 for less than a Prius. It might just be a Carrera 4 from the unwanted 996 generation, but it’s a real Porsche. Under the hood is a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-6 engine. that pushes about 320 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 took about 5 seconds and at full speed this car will do 177 mph.

You can even get a facelift convertible model with the desired 6-speed manual gearbox. However, the cheapest cars are the high mileage coupe models with the Tiptronic gearbox.

seven Aston Martin DB7 Vantage

Via McGurkPerformanceCars

An Aston Martin for the Prius money is a given. Especially when it comes to an Aston Martin 5.9 liter V12 developing 420 hp. The DB7 is Aston Martin’s best-selling car. It’s a decent looking car, and the interior is very luxurious. The DB7 is a real GT, but it’s still a supercar.

The time from 0 to 60 is 5 seconds, and at full speed this car will do 184 mph (165 mph in the automatic model). A very fast car indeed, and the engine sounds absolutely amazing. These cars go up in value very quickly, so buy one while you can at a reasonable price.

6 Maserati GranTurismo

The Maserati GranTurismo is a fantastic car with an incredible sound. Under the hood is a 4.2-liter V8 (later upgraded to 4.7) that’s actually built by Ferrari, and they know a thing or two about making a great engine. It had 399 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque, which is pretty good.

The 4.2 model could reach 60 in just 5.2 seconds. Thoroughly this car will do 177 mph, which is more than enough for anyone. It is a very spacious car inside, and the materials used are of a very high standard. It is also a car that will make you look very wealthy even if your budget is limited.

5 Mercedes CL63 AMG

The Prius is one of the more economical cars on the market, but hey, only milk and juice are available in two liters, right? Well, you can still go to the other end of the spectrum with a big Mercedes AMG 6.2, specifically the CL63. Under the hood is either a naturally aspirated 6.2 V8 or, in later models, a 5.5 Biturbo V8. If you want to fully enjoy the AMG experience, the V8 6.2 is the one for you.

(dzbc.org)

The 6.2 CL63 develops 518 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. That’s more than the Lamborghini Gallardo, Aston Martin DB9, Ferrari F430 and Audi R8. It also has 465 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 time is 4.6 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph, however, we all know this car can go a lot faster than that.

4 BMW E63 M6

This is another mind blowing car. It’s a 500bhp, 204mph V10 coupe that does a 0-60 time in 5.6 seconds, and it can be yours for less than the price of a new Prius. The E63 M6 was based on the very popular E60 M5, but it is much more luxurious. It has a nicer interior, a bit nicer body shape, and you can get one in convertible form.

Via Bring a Trailer

The E63 M6 also sounds absolutely crazy. The next cheapest V10 supercar after the E63 M6 is the R8 V10 and it’s much more expensive, and in our opinion it doesn’t sound as good as the mighty S65 V10 used in the M6.

3 Bentley Continental Flying Spur

Are things getting better than this? You can get a Bentley with 552 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque for less than a Prius. This new thing cost several Priuses, but now you can get one for less than a new Prius. It’s crazy. The Flying Spur might have four doors, but this thing behaves like a real sports car.

It hits 60 in just 5.2 seconds, with a top speed of 194 mph. Not bad for a car weighing almost 3 tonnes, right? Plus, all of that speed is experienced in the highest levels of luxury with real wood rather than the cheap plastics found in the Toyota.

2 Corvette C6

The Corvette C6 is a sexy car, and it can be yours for less than the price of a new Prius. It originally contained a 6-liter, 400-hp V8, but in 2008 it was increased to 6.2-liter, which produced 460 hp. Because this car was so light, 0-60 times was phenomenal for the time, about 4 seconds.

The C6 is therefore an excellent car. It sounds absolutely crazy, especially with an exhaust modification. Even in the corners, the C6 is not at all shabby.

1 Jaguar XKR

If you know your cars, you will know that the Jaguar XK R is essentially a cheaper but more powerful Aston Martin Vantage. The XK R originally had a 4.2-liter supercharged V8 with 414 hp, which was later upgraded to a 5-liter supercharged V8 with over 500 hp. A real beastly car that will give you a time from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds.

The XK R has amazing sound. Nothing beats a V8, and this car proves it. It’s also quite comfortable, which is a bonus, and the trunk space is decent since it was designed to comfortably hold a bag of golf clubs.
